Campaign Story

(Banana Accompanying Measures for Banana-Exporting ACP Countries)

To continue providing support for the restructuring and improvement of the competitiveness of banana producing companies in Cameroon.

To enable the banana sector in Cameroon to continue playing its role as the country’s second largest employer by guaranteeing favourable and fair working conditions for its employees as well as the sustainable development of the communities concerned.

The export banana production areas of the Republic of Cameroon, mainly located in the Littoral and South West regions. The Technical Assistance, financed by TFA funds, is based in Douala so that it can be close to ASSOBACAM and the producers

  • The project is managed under direct centralised management and a financing agreement has been signed with the Government of Cameroon. The project is implemented by the European Commission through its Delegation in Cameroon. A technical assistance unit comprising experts in agricultural sub-sectors is in charge of the technical monitoring of the programme.

The BAM funds are used to finance all or some of the following activities, depending on the needs expressed by the sub-sector at the time of their effective disbursement by the European Commission for the benefit of Cameroon:

  1. Reduction of the cost of production and improvement of its quality
  2. Improvement of the working and living conditions of employees
  3. Improvement of the environmental conditions of production
  4. Achievement of economies of scale through increased production
  5. Development of cross-cutting actions between operators
  6. Improvement of market approach strategies
  7. Governmental support and monitoring-evaluation of the sub-sector.
  1. Reduced average production costs of bananas, at the exit of the packaging stations
  2. Improved social and environmental production conditions
  3. The missions of the professional association (Cameroon Banana Association (ASSOBACAM) are effectively performed.
